Getting started
FairPay turns a receipt photo into a clean, per-person split — including a fair share of tax and tip — in a few taps.
- Snap or upload up to 5 photos of your receipt (long receipts are stitched automatically).
- Cleanup: review items, tax, and tip. Fix anything OCR got wrong.
- Split: assign items to people. Multi-quantity items (e.g. "3 Lassi $18") can be expanded so each unit goes to a different person.
- Summary: see every person's total with tax and tip distributed proportionally, then share via the system share sheet.
Frequently asked questions
Why did OCR miss or misread an item?
Receipt photos vary a lot — angle, lighting, faded thermal paper, crumpling, and overlapping rows all reduce accuracy. You can edit, add, or delete any item on the Cleanup screen before splitting. Tip: take a top-down photo in even light, and avoid shadows across the totals row.
Can I scan a long receipt with more than one photo?
Yes. Add up to 5 images per receipt. FairPay stitches them and removes duplicate lines that appear on overlapping photos. Each image is resized and compressed on your device before upload (max 2000 px, JPEG quality 0.7) so it works on slow connections.
How are tax and tip split?
Each person's tax and tip are scaled to the portion of the subtotal they consumed. If you ordered 30% of the food, you pay 30% of the tax and 30% of the tip — never an even split that punishes light eaters.
I got a "daily limit reached" message. Why?
To keep FairPay free and protect against abuse, each account can scan up to 20 receipts per UTC day. The counter resets at
00:00 UTC. If you have a legitimate need for a higher limit (events, large group trips), email us and we'll work with you.
I got a "service temporarily unavailable" message. Why?
There's a global monthly cap across all FairPay users on the OCR service. If we hit it, scans pause until the start of the next UTC month. This is rare — if you see it more than once, please let us know so we can raise capacity.
How do I sign in?
FairPay supports email + password, Sign in with Google, and Sign in with Apple. If you signed up with one method, use the same method next time — accounts are not automatically merged across providers.
I'm not getting the email confirmation link.
Check your spam folder first. The confirmation message comes from our authentication provider, so it can occasionally be filtered. If you still don't see it after a few minutes, tap "Resend confirmation" on the sign-in screen, or email us and we'll confirm your account manually.
What happens to my receipt photos?
Photos are sent to our backend only to run text extraction, and they are not retained for analytics or marketing. Splits themselves stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy for the full data-handling story.
Does FairPay work offline?
You can edit a split and view past totals offline, but scanning a new receipt requires a network connection because the OCR step runs on our servers.
What devices are supported?
iPhone running a currently-supported version of iOS, and Android devices on a currently-supported version of Android. iPad runs in iPhone-compatibility mode for now.
Account & data deletion
You can delete your FairPay account and all data associated with it at any time.
- Email fairpay-support@nimtech.xyz from the address on file, with the subject "Delete my FairPay account".
- We confirm the request and complete deletion within 30 days, typically much sooner.
- After deletion: your profile, authentication record, and any per-account usage metadata are removed. Aggregate, non-identifying logs (e.g. anonymous error counts) may be retained for security and abuse prevention.
Receipts themselves are not stored long-term, so they are not part of the deletion backlog.
